Xavi wants another Liverpool star at Barcelona
New Barcelona manager, Xavi, is hoping to bring back Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara to the club, following the ex-Bayern star’s continued struggles at Liverpool.
Much was made of the signing of Thiago when Liverpool landed him last year for around £20m. The Spaniard is a well-respected and highly-rated midfielder in Europe, and it appeared Klopp had pulled off a masterstroke.
However, things haven’t gone too well for Thiago at all. A number of niggling injuries have stunted his progress at Anfield. Further, when he has played, he’s often been blamed for slowing down Liverpool’s style of play.
And now, according to Spanish publication, Sport, Xavi wants to bring Thiago back to the Nou Camp.
It’s suggested that Xavi sees the 30-year-old Liverpool man as the ideal player to lead his revolution in Catalonia. The pair played together while Thiago was in La Liga, so Xavi knows all about the Liverpool man.
Barcelona’s interest in Thiago means it’s now two players who are on the radar of the Spanish giants. The other name is Mo Salah, with reports recently claiming Barca were going to try their best to land the Egyptian.
LucrumBet’s View: Thiago might welcome Barcelona return but Liverpool will want good money
It’s safe to say the signing of Thiago hasn’t gone quite as well as everyone would have wanted in Liverpool. At times he’s looked off the pace and short of what Klopp requires.
Of course, there have been moments of class. His passing is exceptional, and he isn’t afraid to stick the boot in when needed either.
But overall, it’s not been a good time for Thiago. Liverpool paid £20m, and while the Spaniard is 30, they’ll likely want that money and a bit more back.
And with Barcelona having little to no money at all, it makes any deal for Thiago look all the more difficult.
