Steven Gerrard wants former Liverpool man as his first Aston Villa signing
Steven Gerrard is considering a move for Rangers winger Ryan Kent, wanting a reunion with the winger to be his first signing as Aston Villa manager
Gerrard was confirmed as the new Villa boss this week, leaving Rangers to replace Dean Smith, and he is expected to be handed funds to spend in the January transfer window.
The Villains spent big in the summer but as they battle to avoid a relegation scrap, they will likely make signings in the upcoming transfer window.
The new boss is now expected to raid his former club in January and Kent is on his shopping list after being a big part of Gerrard’s team that won the league in Scotland last season.
The 25-year-old was at Liverpool from a young age, only ever making one first team appearance for the club, but being a Reds player from 2004-2019.
He spent loan spells at Coventry, Barnsley, SC Frieburg, Bristol City and Rangers, before signing for the Scottish side permanently in 2019.
Kent has made 139 appearances for the Gers in all competitions and scored 10 league goals last season as they surged to the title.
The winger cost Rangers an initial £6.5m when they signed him permanently, but they would likely be looking for at least £20m if they were to sell him to the Premier League in January.
