ManUnited flop Memphis Depay scores one of the most 'unsavable' penalties ever
Man United flop Memphis Depay guided Barcelona to a crucial 2-1 win in La Liga on Sunday with an "ice-cold" penalty late-on which has been called the "most unstoppable penalty ever"
Former Manchester United flop Memphis Depay stunned viewers by scoring one of “the most unstoppable penalties ever" on Sunday.
Barcelona came from a goal down to scrape a 2-1 win against Elche, with their first being an instinctive close-range finish in the second-half by new signing Ferran Torres.
Depay, 28, was brought on as a substitute as Barcelona tried to make the pressure pay, and the Dutchman was awarded a penalty for a handball by an Elche defender with less than 10 minutes remaining.
And with the game on the line, the forward made no mistake from 12-yards as he nonchalantly thundered the ball into the net.
Depay took just a few steps in his run-up but generated obscene power with his strike.
He fired the ball with ferocity into the inside top-right-hand corner of the net so that even two goalkeepers wouldn’t have reached it.
And the Catalan side’s fans took to Twitter to voice their appreciation for the ice-cold finish.
One fan wrote: "One of the coldest penalties I've seen."
Another tweeted: “Depay literally took an unsavable penalty…”
Meanwhile, the Dutchman commented after the game: “I was clear about how I was going to take the penalty. I like to take them like that.”
Depay’s second goal in two games helped the Blaugrana move above Real Betis into third place in La Liga on 48 points.
