Man Utd could sell six players if Zinedine Zidane replaces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United may sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and replace him with Real Madrid icon Zinedine Zidane

Manchester United are interested in hiring Zinedine Zidane as a replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Should they bring in the Real Madrid icon, they can expect him to be ruthless behind the scenes. So Express Sport will now take a look at the six players who could leave the club in January should the Frenchman come in.

Dean Henderson

At the start of this season, Dean Henderson was hoping to establish himself as United’s No 1.

However, coronavirus cruelly prevented him from being involved during the campaign’s earlier matches and, in the time since, David De Gea has rediscovered his best form.

Zidane wanted to sign De Gea during his time at Real Madrid and, given the 31-year-old’s improvement, it’s hard to see him being dropped.

Henderson could, therefore, possibly demand a move away in the New Year.

And given United have veteran goalkeepers in Tom Heaton and Lee Grant waiting in the wings, they may not stand in the way of a departure.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

United have seen Aaron Wan-Bissaka regress alarmingly this term.

And given Zidane’s fondness for attacking full-backs, the former Crystal Palace star could find himself being forced out if the Frenchman arrives.

Diogo Dalot is superior from an attacking perspective and, if he can tighten up defensively, he could become a complete right-back.

Zidane helped Dani Carvajal evolve into the perfect full-back during their time at the Bernabeu together.

And it’s possible the Real Madrid icon would prefer Dalot due to his talents on the ball, rather than off it.

Eric Bailly

United tied Eric Bailly down to a new contract earlier in the year, with the Ivory Coast international opting to stay.

But, frustratingly, he’s barely played in the time since.

The brutal truth of the matter is Bailly is too erratic and rash, which is exactly why Zidane could cut him loose.

At Real, the 49-year-old liked playing Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Nacho and Eder Militao because they’re all solid, dependable assets.

Therefore, it’s hard to see Bailly getting regular action under the Frenchman due to his chaotic style of play.

Scott McTominay

Also at Real, Zidane played specialists in midfield.

Consequently, it would leave Scott McTominay facing an uncertain future given he’s still not nailed down a position.

United have tried shaping him into a defensive-midfielder but that’s a project that will take time.

In Fred, the Red Devils already have a player capable of operating in that role. And there’s a sense that, under a different manager, the Brazil international will be a more consistent performer.

McTominay’s versatility makes him a good player to have around but it’s feasible he’d struggle to nail down a starting spot with Zidane at the helm.

Phil Jones

Regardless of if Solskjaer or Zidane is in charge, United will try to sell Phil Jones in the New Year.

Injuries have prevented the England international from kicking on and realising his true potential at Old Trafford.

And Jones is now ready to depart.

Zidane wouldn’t stand in his way, not with the other options he’d have at his disposal at Old Trafford.

And Jones’ time at the club appears to be over, nearly two years after his last start for them.

Jesse Lingard

Solskjaer has made it clear he wants Jesse Lingard to stay at United.

But Zidane may have other ideas, particularly given the abundance of talent the Red Devils have on their books.

Lingard hasn’t signed a new contract and it’s certainly possible Zidane will only want players he feels are fully committed.

The Red Devils’ No 14 has been linked with a move to Newcastle now they’re one of the richest clubs on the planet.

But Leicester and West Ham have also been credited with an interest.
