Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher makes shock Arsenal claim ahead of Premier League clash
Jamie Carragher's former club Liverpool will take on Arsenal this Saturday
Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has claimed that he has not been a popular figure amongst Arsenal fans in recent years.
The Gunners travel to Anfield to take on Carragher's old team on Saturday afternoon, with just two points currently separating the two sides.
Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp enjoys an excellent record against the north Londoners, winning in five of their six Premier League encounters on Merseyside.
However, Mikel Arteta's side will hope they can continue their fine recent form this weekend, avoiding defeat in each of their last ten fixtures - a run that has seen them rise from 20th to 5th in just two months.
Now, Carragher has admitted that whilst he hasn't always praised Arsenal he is impressed with the current trajectory of the club.
“Since I've come into punditry, I’m probably not the most popular guy with Arsenal supporters because it’s been a time where Arsenal have been really poor. This is the first time I feel almost excited by [them],” he told Ian Wright on the Wrighty’s House podcast.
“There is something about Arsenal right now. It feels like there’s a coming together.”
He continued: “I think these lads [Arsenal] over the next two or three years will need more to win a league or a Champions League but could they win a couple of FA Cups or [League] Cups?
“I know what Arsenal have done in the past and you want more - but it could be some team with Ben White coming in and you just think there’s something to get behind.
“It feels like Arsenal fans like the team.”
