Barcelona identify Premier League speedster as Ousmane Dembele’s replacement

According to Spanish media outlet SPORT, Barcelona will make an attempt to sign Wolverhampton winger Adama Traore if Ousmane Dembele does not renew his contract

Barcelona are currently locked in contract negotiations with Dembele, who has entered the final six months of his tenure. The Catalan giants have reportedly tabled several offers for the former Borussia Dortmund man, but his wage demand is proving out to be the stumbling block.

As a result, Barcelona have been forced to look elsewhere, and their search has taken them to their former academy graduate.

The aforementioned source says the 25-year-old speedster could leave Wolves for a price reported to be around €24 million. Despite the winger’s woeful form this season, Barcelona are convinced that his speed and physicality can be used to better effect.

However, the club is also aware of the fact that Traore has other admirers too. BBC says Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are expected to table a substantial offer after failing to sign the winger in the previous transfer window.

The Italian manager believes Traore can be used as a right-wingback, similar to how Victor Moses was utilized during the title-winning season with Chelsea.

As of now, the Lilly Whites haven’t made an official approach but are expected to table a decent offer.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have different plans for the winger. Being scouted as a replacement, Barcelona wish to use Traore on the offensive front.

Furthermore, Barca enjoy a good working relationship with Wolves, having been involved in transfers of Nelson Semedo and Francisco Trincao. On top of it, Traore is still in contact with some of the senior members of the team, namely, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, giving the Spanish team leverage in the negotiation.

As things stand, though, signing Traore is a far-fetched course of action as Barcelona’s current priority is to tie Dembele down. However, if the Frenchman does decide to leave, Traore will be among the favourites on the list.
