'Absolutely not': President refusing to sell £15m star to Liverpool or Tottenham
Torino president Urbano Cairo has ruled out selling Gleison Bremer to Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, speaking to Calciomercato
The Granata may be 12 points clear of the Serie A drop zone but no one should be resting on their laurels just yet.
The job is only part of the way done. And, if Torino are to maintain a healthy distance between themselves and the bottom three, keeping hold of their key players is an absolute must.
In recent weeks, reports linking Andrea Belotti and Wilfried Singo with mid-season moves away from the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino have intensified.
Bremer, however, is perhaps the most coveted member of Ivan Juric’s squad.
IS BREMER HEADING TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE?
Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici know the Brazilian centre-back from their time at Inter Milan and Juventus respectively. And with Spurs looking far from secure at the back, Bremer has emerged as one of the top targets.
West Ham are interested too, according to Calciomercato. David Moyes’ side are down to the bare bones following a recent injury crisis, with Kurt Zouma joining fellow defender Angelo Ogbonna on the sidelines.
According to reports from Turin, however, it is Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who are leading the race for the £15 million-rated Bremer.
It seems that Liverpool – not to mention Spurs and West Ham – will have to wait until the summer however with Cairo slamming down the shutters ahead of the January window.
“Absolutely not,” Cairo said when asked if he’d consider selling any of his star men.
“For the moment I have not spoken to anyone (about potential departures). Bremer is one of our players. I never thought of selling him in January.
“He will stay with us for (the whole of) this season, then we will see.”
WHERE WILL ANDREA BELOTTI END UP?
Torino may have little choice but to cash in on star striker Belotti, however.
The Italy international has also been linked with Tottenham, after Conte tried and failed the once-£85 million-rated frontman at Chelsea.
Belotti is out of contract next summer and has rejected the chance to sign an extension.
“Belotti? (His contract) is expiring. There is no news,” Cairo adds.
